At First Defence Finance, we are here to help people to reduce existing debt through loans such as Debt Consolidation, which aim to reduce the amount of interest being paid.

However, there are some cases where a member may be struggling with their debts that we may not be able to help. If you are struggling with your existing debts, and have missed multiple payments, it may be best for you to get some advice on your situation.

We recommend that you NEVER pay for debt advice, as there are debt charities available that can help you. Please be careful of companies offering free consultations and commerical companies as you’ll end up paying them to manage this further down the line.

As a credit union, we cannot give you financial advice, so we suggest that you contact one of a debt charity (see examples below) who can help you work out the next steps in your journey to getting debt free if you’re really struggling:

Step Change has a vision is to have a society free from problem debt. They have a range of online tools to help provide expert debt advice. They help nearly 600,000 people a year to overcome their debt problems without charging those who need help most.
